i am sure i am not alone in being overwhelmed at the knowledge, insight , and practical advice given on this board , surely someone somewhere can put this wealth of information ,condensced into a book that can help others out their .. smiddy.
or free at your local library
hi people.
in all my life i have only looked in a womans handbag once.
it was close to looking at the arc of the covenant.
3 wallets (one for credit cards, one for ID cards and one for change), 2 sets of keys , 2 pens, bus pass, 2 see through palstic bags (one for kleenex, tic tacs, hearing aid and batteries, comb, MP3 player, cough drops, meds and chapstick and the other had an agenda, book for notes I might need to make, handicapped parking permit, stand for my e-reader) and an address book.
I have recently discovered the joy of not having to hunt around in the bottom of my bag for what I want. The see through pouches are great. And if the bag tips over I don't have everything rolling off in all directions.
Because I use a wheelchair when I go out I am very fussy about my purse. What I want is hard to find so I have started making my own purses and they will have the clear zippered pouches that I can snap into place on the inside of the purse.
What I don't have is the kitchen sink.

It has been posted on the board several times
on another thread i asked about this life being all there is.
if so, what would you consider important to have done or accomplished before you die so that 'your time alive' would not have been a total waste?.
if you haven't done it, or accomplished it, are you currently on a quest to do so?
funny you should say that. The purses I am making all have removable zippered inserts. I like that you can just pull one out and see what is in it instead of shoving your hands to the bottom in the hopes of finding your keys at the bottom. One purse was made soyou snapped the inserts to the inside. My daughter loved that one.

I can't imagine not learning new things, about myself and about the world around me. Every year I challenge myself with learning a new skill. This year I am making purses. Last year was making jewelry. No idea what next year will be. I will figure it out later.
Like jgnat I have this ability to be both creative and logical. Since I left the JWs I have done more than I rver imagined I could. I fulfilled life-long dreams like becoming a counseloor for abuse survivors. I have founds ways to turn the negative experiences of my past into positive action to help others. I hope that desire will live long within me.
JG that painting is stunning.
i understand that the objection to blood transfusions by jehovah's witnesses is purely a scriptural one.
whether or not there are medical benefits to avoiding blood transfusions is, or should be, irrelevant.
however, for those who are not convinced by jw understanding of the scriptures in this regard, and those who don't believe either in the bible and/or in god, the fact that blood transfusion is associated with increased mortality in heart attacks may be of interest.. a systematic search of studies published between january 1, 1966, and march 31, 2012, was conducted using medline, embase, cinahl, scopus, web of science, and cochrane central register of controlled trials databases.
When I was in university took a course in Medical Ethics and I wrote a paper about JWs and their refusal to take blood transfusions. At the time the JW beliefs were still firmly planted in me. So I went to the medical library of McGill University and did some research.
And I wrote a paper that supported the JW stance on blood from a purely medical standpint. My prof was amazed. I had found dozens of articles from reputable journals about the dangers of blood. My prof insisted and scribbled all over the front of my paper that I should get it published. I never pursued it.
Later on when I no longer beleived what the JWs teach, I realiazed I had made a terrible mistake when I wrote that paper. I had only looked for one side of the argument. I only cited articles that supported the JWs. I included nothing that contradicted their belief. I am surprised that my prof didn't catch that. It is very poor research and I should not have gotten an A+ for the paper.
It is very easy to research anything and only use what supports your beliefs. The WTS does it all the time when they publish any of their literature.
I am ashamed I ever wrote it. There was nothing ethical in what I wrote.

One of the things I did on this board was to create the section "The Best of..."
Much of it doesn't work at the moment using the links in the section. But Simon has provided this http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/best-of that should enable you to read any of the topics
It was a massive undertaking and was not completed before we switched from a .com to .net. They will be accessible again when we revert to the .com format
So the information is available to anyone who wants to go through them.
lesbian couple that has a child decides that they want to be one of jehovahs witnesses?
really think about this for a second.. what will they do then.. option 1: will they tell them that they have to get a divorce and ignore the scriptural counsel of jehovah hating a divorcing?
will they say that it was never valid anyway in the eyes of jehovah?
I know one couple who were told they could live together just as long as they didn't have sex together.
